To register your child for Year 7 entry, you should complete a registration form and pay the registration fee. Soon after, a member of the Admissions team will contact you to arrange a Taster Day or Taster Stay (if you are applying for a boarding place).

The Taster Day provides your child with an opportunity to join lessons and activities whilst buddied up with a current pupil.

Following the Taster Day, your child’s current-school report will be requested and they will be invited to sit assessments. There will also be an interview.

Based on successful performance in the assessment, interview and a positive school report, you may receive an offer of a place, which is confirmed following receipt of your written acceptance.

Scholarships are a recognition of excellence in a particular area and are decided on by The Head / Principal. These awards do not require a separate application. The main benefit of a scholarship at Monkton is access to the excellence programme in that subject, and in return, the pupil commits to serving as an ambassador for that subject.

Scholarships provide a £1,000 fee discount. They may cover the following areas: Academic, Art, Design Technology, Drama, Music and Sport.

The Monktonian Award is awarded to pupils who think differently, are enthusiastic about learning and have the qualities of a natural leader. Candidates who have a wide range of skills which do not reach the standard of a scholarship can apply for the Monktonian Award.

For families unable to pay the full fees, Monkton makes bursary awards following the provision of detailed financial records. Special consideration is given to holders of scholarships and the children of clergy and missionaries, in accordance with Monkton’s charitable objectives. If you are in need of financial assistance, you should notify the Registrar at the earliest opportunity, prior to registering your child.

If a bursary and scholarship are awarded to the same pupil, the scholarship is subsumed into the bursary. Note that the bursary will never be reduced below the level of the original scholarship.

For more information about Prep School Scholarships and Bursaries, please visit the school’s website.

The English paper examines comprehension and technical English skills, whilst the maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills.

The Verbal Reasoning paper is primarily designed to test and assess your child’s logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary, whilst the Non-Verbal Reasoning assessment is designed to measure their ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.

Why do some of the recommendations above show me grammar school papers?

The main difference between independent and grammar school papers is the question format. Independent schools usually assess with standard format questions, which means students need to write out full answers. Grammar schools usually use multiple-choice format questions.

Whilst Monkton Combe School is an independent school, they actually use the grammar school (multiple-choice) format for some of their exams, which is why they are included in the recommendations above.

Our practice tests aim to show what sort of questions were included in Monkton Combe School 11+ past papers. The information provided about Monkton Combe School was believed to be correct at the time of publishing. However, please be aware of future changes. We advise you to contact the school directly if you are unsure of anything. School contact details are provided within the post.
