Open Events for Mayfield School 11 Plus (11+) Entry
Open Mornings offer families the opportunity to meet members of staff, hear from the Headmistress and take a pupil-led tour of the school. They take place in September, November, March and April.
Saturday Workshops are held twice a year, in February and May. During these, prospective pupils become more familiar with the surroundings and current pupils whilst taking part in a selection of workshops.
Big Night In is for those girls who are curious about life in a boarding school. They can visit and enjoy a fun sleepover with current boarders. The event is usually held in conjunction with Saturday Workshops.
Personal visits include meeting key members of staff at a mutually convenient time. These visits comprise of a pupil-led tour of the school, a visit to a boarding house and a meeting with the Headmistress. For more details, please contact the Registrar.
Mayfield School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
Following the visit, the next step would be to register your daughter with the school. The registration fee of £125 is non-refundable. The form is available online.
The Entrance Assessments for Year 7 entry take place in November. There will also be an interview with the Headmistress. You will be asked to complete an Examination Entry Form, giving the school consent to request reports and a confidential reference from your daughter’s current school. The form also enters your daughter for any of the Gifted and Talented Scholarships available.
An offer letter will be sent in early December. To accept an offer, you should complete the Acceptance Form and return it with a deposit which will secure the place.
Mayfield School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
The school offers Scholarship awards in the following disciplines: Academic, Creative Art, Drama, Music, Sport, Equestrian and Dance.
The Jubilee Scholarship is also available and is awarded each year to a practising Catholic pupil from a primary school in the Arundel and Brighton Diocese who demonstrates academic potential and a capacity to contribute to the Chaplaincy at Mayfield.
Headmistress’ Awards may be awarded, at the discretion of the Headmistress, to girls who meet the school’s criteria in the Entrance Assessments, interview, school reports and reference.
The Academic Scholarship is awarded on the basis of performance in the Entrance Assessments and a meeting with the Headmistress. The award doesn’t require taking separate Scholarship papers. For more details about scholarships, click here.
Means tested Bursaries cover up to 100% of the school fees. Priority will be given to:
- Scholars/exceptionally talented pupils
- Catholic girls
- Daughters and granddaughters of Old Girls
- Girls with sister(s) at the School.
A Sibling Discount of 10% is provided to second and subsequent daughters. A Forces Discount of 25% is offered to the daughters of Forces personnel.
Mayfield School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The Mayfield School 11+ entrance examination consists of the following tests:
- Reasoning (Verbal and Non-Verbal)
The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The maths exam assesses your daughter’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper may include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
The Verbal Reasoning paper is primarily designed to test and assess her logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary.
The Non-Verbal Reasoning test measures her ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, assessing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
