Luckley House School is an independent day and boarding school, set in a rural location south of the historic market town of Wokingham, Berkshire. Founded in 1918, the school educated girls only for most of its history. It became co-educational in 2015.
In Year 7, pupils study English, drama, mathematics, science, MFL, engineering, geography, history, religious studies, art, computer science, music, photography, physical education, textiles technology, food & nutrition, Latin and Life Skills (the school’s personal and social education programme).
The strong and broad academic provision is supplemented by a variety of co-curricular activities, events and educational trips that take place throughout the year, including visits to destinations such as South Africa, the USA and Spain. The school also structures a programme of visiting speakers, including academic experts, authors, illustrators, artists, inspirational speakers and charity representatives, who provide pupils with an insight into their areas of work.

Open Events for Luckley House School 11 Plus (11+) Entry
The school holds Open Events each term, providing families with an opportunity to meet the Head and academic staff.
The Autumn Term Open Morning will take place in October. Booking is made online, via the school’s website.
The Open House events take place on most Friday mornings during term time and include an informal meeting with the Head and a tour of the school.
Individual visits include a meeting with the Head, an individual pupil-led school tour and a chat with the Registrar.
The Year 7 Taster Day, set in November, allows prospective pupils to spend the day with current Year 7 pupils, make new friends, enjoy exciting activities, and experience the school’s atmosphere. For more details, please contact the Registrar.
Luckley House School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
The school recommends that you register your child by the end of November of the preceding year. However, late applicants may be considered. The Registration Form should be submitted along with a payment of the non-refundable registration fee of £100.
Year 7 entry is subject to your child’s performance in the entrance examinations, a report from their current Headteacher and an interview with the Head or senior member of staff. The interview process includes completing a personal ‘Story Board’ to demonstrate their hobbies, achievements and interests. Upon registering, the school will send you a template.
Offer letters are typically sent out by the end of January, following scholarship assessments. To accept a place, you will be expected to return the acceptance form, along with a deposit of £600, which will be refunded in your child’s last term at the school.
Luckley House School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Scholarships assessments take place in the January prior to September entry. The school offers awards in the following areas: Academic achievement, Music, Art, Drama and Sports.
Academic scholarships cover up to 10% of fees, and are awarded on the basis of results in the entrance examination. Minor awards are offered following exceptional performance in one area of the examination.
Art Scholarships (up to 10%) are offered on the grounds of your child’s portfolio, practical testl and an interview.
Drama, Music and Sports Scholarships, also covering up to 10% of fees, are awarded based on a performance and an interview.
Means-tested bursaries of up to 80% of fees are also available and should be applied for no later than the last day of October prior to the year of entry.
The school also offers a sibling discount of 10%. A discount to Forces families, coupled with the MOD Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA), significantly reduces the fees. For more details, please refer to the Bursar’s Department.
Luckley House School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The Luckley House School 11+ entrance examination consists of the following tests:
- Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT4)
- A creative writing task
The Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT4) measures developed abilities via modules testing Verbal, Non-Verbal, Spatial and Quantitative Reasoning.
The English paper examines writing skills, including spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
