Introduction
Leighton Park School is a co-educational independent day and boarding school in Reading. It was founded as a Quaker School in 1890.
The curriculum in Year 7 comprises English, mathematics, Science, art, drama, music, DT, textile design, ICT, geography, history, Global Perspectives, Spanish or Mandarin, Global Communications, sport & wellbeing.
The school’s broad co-curricular programme includes a variety of clubs and societies, such as Book Club, Bridge, Chinese Culture Experience, Debating, Fryer Board Games, Fun Fridays, YoungPhilSoc, and many more.

Open Events for Leighton Park School 11 Plus (11+) Entry
The school holds Open Mornings throughout the year. These events consist of a pupil-led tour of the school, a short introduction by the Head and the opportunity to speak with members of the Admissions Team and teaching staff. Bookings can be made online.

Leighton Park School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
To register your child, you should fill in an online registration form and pay the (non-refundable) registration fee of £100.
The registration form has two sections:
- Registration enquiry: requires that you provide brief details about your child and upload their most recent school report. You will then be asked to verify your email address by clicking on a link in an automatically generated email.
- Registration form: at this stage you will be asked for further details, such as the year your child wishes to join, their interests and hobbies and the details of their current school so that Leighton Park can request a reference. You will be expected to pay the registration fee to complete the application process.
Upon registering, you will be provided with access to the application portal in order to track the process and your child will be invited to sit the entrance examination. They will also attend an interview with a senior staff member.
Following your child’s successful performance in the exam and interview, you will receive an offer of a place. The acceptance form along with a deposit should be submitted by the end of the first week of March.
Leighton Park School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
For Year 7 entry, there is no requirement to apply for an academic scholarship since candidates are invited to a scholarship interview based on their performance in the entrance examination. The school also offers scholarships in the areas of design, arts and sports.
The maximum value of all scholarship awards is 30% of fees. Please note that there are certain expectations of scholars: they need to be ambassadors within the school, enter relevant competitions and act as mentors to younger students.
Bursaries are applied on means-tested basis and applications are reviewed by Bursary Administration Ltd (BAL) following a visit to your home. Leighton Park School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The Leighton Park School entrance assessment consists of the following papers:
- English comprehension
- English writing task
- Mathematics
The English papers examine both comprehension and writing skills, testing inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation, whilst the maths paper assesses problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills.
All the papers consist of a series of questions that are designed to test your child’s ability to use and apply their knowledge in each subject.
