Introduction
Leehurst Swan School is a co-educational independent day school in Salisbury, Wiltshire. Founded in 1914, the school owns a purpose built performing arts centre and a large area of land, containing an underground reservoir.
Pupils in Year 7 follow a broad curriculum consisting of English, mathematics, science, art, design technology, performing arts, MFL, geography, history, IT, religious studies and PE & games. Within the extra-curricular programme, they take part in a wide range of activities such as fencing, cooking, gym and tennis.
In a recent ISI inspection, Leehurst Swan achieved the highest grade of Excellent in all areas. Leehurst Swan School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
Admission into Year 7 is based on successful performance in the entrance examination and a quality report from your child’s current school. The registration form can be accessed through this page and the registration fee is £50.
The 11+ examinations take place on a Friday in January. Your child will also be invited for an interview (with a senior staff member) within two weeks of the tests.
Leehurst Swan School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
At 11+, your child may be considered for an Academic, Sports, Performing Arts or Art Scholarship. Academic Scholarships are typically awarded on the basis of performance in the entrance examinations.
Sports Scholarships are offered following trials testing a variety of skills; Music Scholarships are awarded on the basis of an audition, while Art Scholarship candidates are assessed on the grounds of a portfolio.
Means-tested bursaries are available to pupils whose parents require financial assistance. Please note that all bursary applicants will sit an academic assessment and attend an interview. Prior to this, you will be asked to complete a means-testing form and return it to the Bursar.
Leehurst Swan School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The Leehurst Swan School 11+ entrance examination consists of the following tests:
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper may include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
There will also be a Science paper, assessing your child’s skills in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
