Introduction
King’s Hall School is a co-educational independent day and boarding school located within the parish of Cheddon Fitzpaine, just north of Taunton, Somerset.
King’s Hall School is a part of a group of Anglican schools affiliated to the Woodard Corporation (formerly the Society of St Nicolas) which originates from the work of Nathaniel Woodard, an Anglo-Catholic clergyman.
It was established in 1953 under the name Pyrland Hall School, and later amalgamated with a girl’s preparatory school (King’s House) to form King’s Hall School in 1987.
King’s Hall School’s ethos is centered on Christian teaching and fosters the virtues of faith, hope and love in all aspects of life.
The school offers a full and rounded education, whilst nurturing the unique value of each individual, regardless of race, gender or creed. The rich curriculum includes lessons in English, geography, history, ICT, Latin, mathematics, science, religious studies, as well as French and Spanish as language options.
The school is known for its broad co-curriculum programme, which includes drama, music, sports activities, art, and design technology.
There are specialist areas within the school such as the Arts Centre, comprising individual music practice rooms, and dedicated equipment and rooms for art and design technology. The music department offers lessons in a wide variety of instruments, whilst sports activities include climbing, sailing, orienteering, mountain biking and squash.
The school’s learning strategies (LS) department is situated in the quad at the centre of the school, offering continuous support and advice for pupils, parents and staff.
Individually tailored learning programmes and specialist teaching are available for pupils with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities, such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and language processing difficulties, as well as EAL pupils.
All staff and parents are involved with the pupil’s challenges, strengths, and learning plans through individual educational plans (IEPs).
