Introduction

 

King’s Ely is a co-educational independent day and boarding school located in the cathedral city of Ely, Cambridgeshire. It was founded in 970 AD, which makes it one of the oldest schools in the world.

 

In the Junior School, pupils study Latin, Classical Civilisation, mathematics, English, Science, history, geography, religious studies, PHSE, foreign languages, technology, music, sport and drama.

 

The variety of clubs and societies within the co-curricular programme ensure strong self-esteem amongst children and a positive attitude towards learning and development. Open Events for the King’s Ely Junior School 11 Plus (11+) Entry

 

You can visit the school during its Open Events or smaller Tour Events. Open Mornings are held throughout the year and can be booked via an online form available on the website. It is recommended that you attend these prior to scheduling an individual visit at a later date (if desired). 

 

Individual visits take place on weekdays and usually last an hour. They include a pupil-led tour of the appropriate section of the school and a chat with the Head or Deputy Head. Bookings should be made several weeks in advance. You can view the school’s exact location on the map below: 

 

 

King’s Ely Junior School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

 

If you wish your child to be considered for Year 7 entry, you should register them using the registration form that’s available on the school’s website. They will then be invited to take part in Taster Days – informal events which help the child learn more about the life of a King’s Ely student. 

 

All registered children will sit formal entrance examinations in January. Alongside these tests, your child will take the Lucid dyslexia screening test and attend an informal interview with the Head. They will be asked to bring in an item to discuss during the interview.

 

Offers are usually made at the beginning of February and should be accepted by the first Monday in March. Waiting list candidates will be informed via email of the availability of places, however, a candidate’s position on the waiting list will not be revealed.

 

King’s Ely Junior School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries

 

All 11+ applicants are considered for the King’s Award. This one-off award is valued at £500 and is offered to pupils who provide strong current-school references and achieve a standardised score of 120+ in the entrance examinations.
