Introduction
King Henry VIII School is a coeducational independent school located in Coventry. Founded in 1945, the school is settled on an 11-acre urban site in magnificent Victorian style buildings.

Open Events for King Henry VIII School, Coventry, 11 Plus (11+) Entry
Spring Open House, in February, offers you and your child an opportunity to see the school in action on a normal working day. The Summer Open House and the Summer Open Morning take place in June.
The Summer Open Morning is very much a family event, during which you will attend a pupil-led tour of the school whilst your child partakes in activities and games. Staff will also be on hand to talk about their subjects.
Registration for these events is not required. Personal tours can be arranged with the school’s Marketing Manager, Mrs Suzanne Jackson.
King Henry VIII School, Coventry, 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
King Henry VIII School is a selective school that assesses applicants based on entrance examinations and a school reference.
The acceptance of an offer includes paying a non-returnable deposit of £300, which will be refunded after the end of your child’s final term at the school. Note that the deposit and registration fees are non-refundable in the case of subsequent withdrawal.
King Henry VIII School, Coventry, 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Scholarships are awarded to candidates who have demonstrated the potential to benefit from the education provided by the school and the capacity to contribute to the ethos and school’s community. Scholarships will be applied for the entirety of the student’s time in the school, as long as it is demonstrated that they are benefitting from the education and opportuniteis provided.
All candidates who perform particularly well in the Entrance Examination will be considered for scholarships in English, Mathematics and General Excellence. Following successful exam performance, they will be invited into school for an interview or a scholarship paper.

Bursaries are awarded to pupils whose parents are unable to pay the full school fees, and are thus means-tested. The child’s performance in the entrance examination will also be considered. Bursaries may cover up to 90% of the fees and may be combined with scholarships.
If you wish to apply for a bursary, you should indicate that in the Application Form. Note that you will be expected to submit financial details in confidence.

The King Henry VIII School entrance assessment consists of the following papers:
- English Comprehension (40mins)
- English Composition (40mins)
- Maths (45mins)
- Verbal Reasoning (20mins)
- Non-Verbal Reasoning (20mins)
The comprehension section assesses your child’s ability to read and interpret a text. The composition task will measure the ability to write in paragraphs, the use of interesting words and expressions, as well as punctuation and spelling.
The maths paper is designed to examine your child’s skills in problem-solving and arithmetic.
The Verbal Reasoning paper is primarily designed to test and assess your child’s logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary, whilst the Non-Verbal Reasoning assessment is designed to measure their ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
