Introduction
King Edward VI Academy is a bi-lateral school in the Lincolnshire market town of Spilsby. It caters to a mixed cohort of over 450 pupils, dividing them across four houses (Apollo, Arete, Mercury and Minerva) that compete against each other throughout the year. [1]
Moulding pupils into lifelong learners, the school provides for their intellectual needs to the full. The broad curriculum encompasses languages, mathematics, sciences, social studies and many other disciplines, allowing students to develop individual learning styles and uncover their potential.
The Academy’s focus is also on building pupils’ transferable skills, providing them with a wide-ranging and relevant co-curricular programme. Within the scope of it, the school promotes community engagement and offers numerous opportunities for students to pursue practical work.
KEVI is a proud member of the David Ross Education Trust, and as such, it actively promotes personal growth, inspiring pupils to develop character and broaden their horizons. The Trust helps the school maintain partnerships with a number of organisations that provide enrichment opportunities in sporting, artistic and cultural pursuits, facilitating pupils’ teamwork skills, creativity and grit. [2]
At KEVI, students are relentlessly prepared to contribute to the dynamics of 21st-century society, regardless of their socio-economic backgrounds. King Edward VI Academy 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The 11 Plus Exam at King Edward VI Academy consists of two tests:
⦿ Verbal Reasoning
These sections test your child’s reasoning skills using language-based tasks, such as identifying patterns, completing analogies, solving codes and making logical deductions. They also measure your child’s ability to think critically and analyse information.
⦿ Non-Verbal Reasoning/Spatial Reasoning
The Lincolnshire 11+ Non-Verbal Reasoning (NVR) sections test students’ ability to solve problems using visual and abstract reasoning. They do not rely on language skills but instead challenge students to identify patterns, relationships and sequences within shapes, figures and diagrams.
The Spatial Reasoning sections in the Lincolnshire 11 Plus Exam are designed to assess students’ ability to understand and manipulate visual representations of objects and space. Spatial Reasoning tests mental rotation, visualisation and problem-solving skills.
In order to select the top 25% of pupils, test scores are ranked in order and age-standardised.
