Kew House School is an independent co-educational school located near the River Thames by Kew Bridge, in the Brentford area.
Kew House is one of three schools belonging to the Gardener Schools Group. Due to the enthusiastic feedback from preparatory school parents, in 2013, a co-educational secondary school for pupils aged 11 to 18 years was opened.
KHS is noted for retaining traditional values in accordance with The Gardener Group’s preparatory schools, whilst simultaneously promoting pioneering and modern ideas. In Years 7-8, each student is offered a wide range of core subjects, including Spanish, design and technology, music, food technology and art, along with the humanities, maths, English and science. Students also study French, Latin and German.
The wide range of subjects is enriched by the “Individuals in Society” (IS) course, which focuses on emotional, practical, and intellectual personal development.
The use of Information Technology is of great importance within the school. PCs, Apple Macs, and Interactive White Boards are available to students throughout, as technology is used across the curriculum to enhance every subject. The Digital Curriculum is a core component of Kew House students’ education.
Facilities include a theatre space, a large Music department with instrumental practice rooms, several fully equipped modern science laboratories, a spacious Art room on the top floor, a modern Design Technology lab, two libraries and Computing suites.
The school provides parents with their own spot, the Parent Cafe, where they can relax, enjoy a cup of coffee and use the wifi.
Sporting locations include a Sports Club for various grass sports, a Boat House for Rowing on the Thames, as well as Tennis and Netball courts and a Swimming pool near the school buildings.
According to GCSE Results for 2019, 38% of all grades were grade 9 to 7 (Nationally 20.7%), whilst 96% of students achieved 5 GCSE grades 9 to 4 (including English and Maths) (Nationally 67.1%).

Open Events for Kew House School 11 Plus (11+) Entry
Open events provide prospective parents the opportunity to see the school in action and get a taste of a ‘day in the life’ at Kew House School.
They include a presentation from the Headmaster that begins at 9.45 am, followed by a tour of the school. The visits last approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. During that time, you and your child can ask questions about the subjects and extra-curricular activities.

Kew House School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
The first step of the admissions process includes completing a Registration Form and paying the registration fee. Parents then receive an acknowledgment email from the School Registrar.
Some time later, the School Registrar contacts parents with a date for the 11+ examination.
A confidential reference from the student’s current school, together with internal assessment results are also required.
The next step includes attending an informal interview and a brief presentation with the Headmaster or Senior staff member. Students can present any recent achievement or topic of their choice. The interview process commences as early as September and concludes by early January.
Students sit entrance examinations in January. The 11+ examination comprises an English comprehension paper, a creative writing paper and a mathematics paper. Scores provide the school with essential benchmarking data consistent across all applicants and it is not a pass/fail test.
Offers are made for places after the assessments and are sent out by post by mid-February. The deadline date for acceptance is early March (on a specified date). Offers are held open until this date, after which, places are offered to students on the school’s reserve list.
Once the offer is accepted, parents should complete an Acceptance Form and pay a deposit by bank transfer. Students who have accepted a place are advised to attend a taster day in June in order to experience life at Kew House prior to starting in September.
Kew House School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
Kew House School’s 11+ examinations consist of an English comprehension paper, a creative writing paper and a mathematics paper.
The aim of the English papers is to evaluate the child’s reading, comprehension and writing skills. The mathematics paper is designed to measure your child’s problem solving and arithmetic skills.
The examinations last about an hour per paper in each subject.
