Ipswich High School is an independent school located at Woolverstone Hall near Ipswich. Founded in 1878 as a girls’ school, it switched to the Diamond Model in 2017, the first school to do so in Suffolk.
In Senior School, pupils study 3D design, art, science, dance, computer science, drama, English, food science, games & PE, geography, Latin, German, French, Spanish, Chinese, history, RS, maths, music and HPQ.

Open Events for Ipswich High School 11 plus (11+) Entry
The Open Day events offer the perfect opportunity to experience the school on an operational day. They include a tour of the campus led by staff and pupil ambassadors, talks and presentations from the Heads of School and opportunities to meet with the Admissions team and ask them questions of interest to your child. Spots can be booked via an online form available on the website.
If you are unable to attend Open Days, you can book a private tour, during which you will meet the Head of School, see the facilities and experience what life on campus is like. Ipswich High School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
To apply for Year 7 Entry, you should fill in a Registration Form available on the school’s website. The deadline for submitting it is in the beginning of November.
Short-listed applicants will be invited to attend scholarship interviews and assessments.
Your child will then be expected to sit Entrance Examinations later the same month. Additionally, they will take part in a group activity with the Head of Year 7 and Assistant Head (Pastoral).
The Christchurch Academic Scholarship is awarded to the top-performing children based on performance in the Entrance Examination and doesn’t require an application. Gainsborough Scholarships are offered to Year 7 entrants who excel in Art, Drama, Music or Sport, They are based on your child’s results in a separate assessment processes.
Depending on your child’s performance in the 11+ and scholarship assessments, you may receive an offer of a place and information about awarded scholarships/bursaries in December.
Each year, the school provides a limited number of means-tested bursaries to pupils and families in need of some assistance in regards to paying their school fees. The deadline for submitting a bursary application is in November.

The Ipswich High School 11+ exam consists of the following papers:
- English (60 mins)
- Mathematics (45 mins)
The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper will include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
