Introduction

Invicta Grammar School is a grammar school based in the Maidstone area of Kent. Catering to approximately 1380 pupils, it is a popular girls’ establishment that welcomes boys into the Sixth Form. [1]

Invicta Grammar is widely recognised as being innovative, boasting specialisms in Business, Mathematics, Computing and Languages. Its curriculum is varied, inspiring ambition within the scope of a competitive academic programme, which features everything from design and Classical Civilisation to economics and photography.

Opportunities for personal growth are abundant, allowing girls to delve into their skills while still having fun. Enrichment activities include the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the Aspire initiative, aimed at maximising the cohort’s willingness to succeed and thrive, regardless of the challenges they may be facing. [2]

The goal of Invicta Grammar School is to ensure that girls are happy and confident, which is why it has developed an extensive support, guidance and care system. Its purpose is to help students remain inquisitive and tolerant and learn how to embrace interpersonal differences.

When they leave the school, they’re expected to have a keen sense of self-worth that will empower them to stand up for themselves and a higher cause. Ofsted recognised the school’s high-quality provision and awarded it an “Outstanding” score. [3]

Invicta Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format

In line with the majority of grammar schools in Kent, Invicta uses the Kent 11 Plus exam. The Kent Exam consists of two multiple-choice papers, with separate answer sheets, in the following format:

  1. An hour-long exam that tests pupils’ reasoning abilities. Girls will be tested on Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning and Spatial Reasoning.
  2. An hour-long exam that tests English and Maths.
  3. A writing task that lasts for 40 minutes, including 10 minutes of preparation time. This task isn’t marked for the purposes of the 11 Plus exam but may be used as evidence for borderline cases.

How to Prepare for the Invicta Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Exam?

Kent is the largest and most competitive grammar school area in England, so it’s vital that your daughter makes the most of her revision time and resources in the lead-up to the test. The revision should be broken down into manageable doses, little and often, rather than for extended periods.

The Kent Test covers a number of subjects and it’s possible that your daughter is stronger in some areas and weaker in others. If that’s the case, we recommend practice papers as a good way to highlight those areas early on.

By completing our practice tests, your daughter can become more familiar with the types of questions that she is likely to encounter on the day of the exam, which can help her feel more comfortable and self-assured. In addition, by taking these practice tests under timed exam conditions, your daughter can also improve her time management skills and learn to work more efficiently under pressure.

Invicta Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Pass Marks and Target Scores

Following the exam, your child will receive three standardised scores, one for English, one for Mathematics, and one total score including Reasoning. In order to pass the exam, your child’s standardised score must be over 109 and their total score must be 332 or more. [1]

Based on historical data, we have found that students who are able to score 75%+ consistently in our 11+ Kent practice tests are on track to pass the Invicta Grammar School Test.

Whilst there are no guarantees, this has historically been a fairly strong indicator that your child should do well in the Invicta Grammar School 11+ exam. Please click here to learn more.
