Introduction

 

Hymers College is a co-educational independent day school in Kingston upon Hull. Based on the site of the old Botanical Gardens, it was founded in 1887 and is noted as one of the leading schools in the East Riding of Yorkshire. [1]

Hymers College 7 Plus (7+) Admissions

 

Entry into Year 3 is subject to satisfactory performance in entrance examinations and quality school reports. Please note that the registration form should be submitted with a £25 fee in order to be considered. 

 

The exams test three different types of skills. If your child performs well, they may be offered a place, which is to be accepted with a payment of a £150 deposit.

 

Hymers College 7 Plus (7+) Scholarships and Bursaries

 

Scholarships are not available to 7+ applicants. Please reach out to the school to learn if you can apply for a bursary. 

 

Hymers College 7 Plus (7+) Exam Format

 

The Hymers College 7 Plus (7+) exam consists of the following assessments:

 

  • English 
  • Mathematics
  • Reasoning

 

The English assessment examines comprehension and writing skills, including spelling, punctuation and grammar, as well as the fluency of your child’s reading and oral skills.    

 

The Maths exam assesses problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills, including your child’s  knowledge of times tables.

 

The Verbal Reasoning section of the exam is designed to test and assess logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary.

 

The Non-Verbal Reasoning test measures the ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
