Hill House School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
The school’s Entrance Examination Day takes place in January. The assessments consist of written papers assessing skills in three areas. Your child can also apply for Scholarships in Music, Sport, Art and the Performing Arts, but they will be assessed for these on a separate occasion.
Academic Scholarships are awarded to Year 7 applicants with a strong school report who’ve performed exceptionally well in the Entrance Examination.
Open Scholarships carry a 10% reduction in fees and are valid until the end of Year 11. Means Tested Scholarships are offered to pupils who have been awarded an Open Scholarship and come from low-income families. For more details, please contact the Bursar.
Foundation Scholarships are awarded in exceptional circumstances, by invitation only. Rose Learning Trust Scholarships are annual means tested awards offered to pupils
of exceptional potential from any school within the Rose Learning Trust.

Hill House School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The Hill House School 11+ entrance examination consists of the following papers:
- Reasoning (Verbal and Non-Verbal)
The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper will include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
The Verbal Reasoning paper is primarily designed to test and assess your child’s logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary.
The Non-Verbal Reasoning test measures their ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, assessing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
