Introduction

Formerly known as Haberdashers’ Aske’s School for Girls, Haberdashers’ School for Girls or Habs Girls is a selective day school in Elstree, Hertfordshire. It is one of the country’s most successful independent schools, producing outstanding examination results which frequently place it at the top of league tables. [1]

To coincide with the long tradition of academic successes, Habs Girls offers a broad curriculum that closely follows the latest trends in education. Vigorous lessons are delivered for science, humanities, languages and technology, among others, making up a structured programme of in-class activities that allow girls to define their individual intellectual direction.

Besides facilitating an in-depth understanding of the social and scientific processes that characterise the world beyond school, Habs offers a selection of opportunities for skills acquisition, whether that be through clubs, competitions, volunteering activities or educational trips. The enrichment provision covers everything from Linguistics Club and Medical Society to debating and MUN, aiming to meet emerging interests through a diversified approach that stimulates pupils’ active co-curricular participation. [2]

Preparing girls for success in their preferred area, Habs encourages open-mindedness and proactive problem solving as tools that can help them shape their future. The school’s long list of alumni features eminent professors, journalists, archaeologists, diplomats and authors, testifying to the prestige of the educational experience which, as a rule, prioritises the ‘whole person’.
