Introduction
Gresham’s School is an independent co-educational boarding school in Holt, Norfolk. Founded in 1555 by Sir John Gresham, it is one of the top 30 International Baccalaureate schools in the country.
The curriculum comprises the traditional academic subjects: English, mathematics, science, geography, history, religious studies, modern foreign languages and ICT.
The Activities Programme covers a number of co-curricular activities which help build confidence and self-belief amongst pupils, enabling them to develop lifelong skills and interests.
The sports activities include everything from football and tennis to taekwondo and fencing, whilst activities for the creative-minded range from making mosaics to design technology projects, dance and drama.
The excellent facilities are settled in a pleasant environment to ensure that children are provided with the freedom and opportunities to develop themselves to the fullest, and thus progress into adulthood with both academic and practical knowledge to thrive in the ever changing world.

Open Events for Gresham’s School 11 Plus (11+) Entry
The school hosts two Open Mornings each year, one in the Spring and one in the Autumn Term. They provide an ideal opportunity for families to view facilities and meet pupils and staff. Spots are booked through the admissions office.

Gresham’s School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
Following your visit to the school, the next step is to apply for a place. To register your child, you will be expected to pay a £170 registration fee.
Once the school receives your application, a confidential reference from their current school will be requested. They will then be invited to take part in an assessment.
Assessment days are held in December and scholarship examinations take place in January. Please note that, on acceptance of a place, a £1,000 deposit is payable.
Gresham’s School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Academic, DT, Art, Drama & Performing Arts, Music and Sport Scholarships are worth up to 10% of the fees and are offered following further assessments. All scholarships may be supplemented by a means-tested bursary.
Means-tested bursaries are offered to pupils from low-income families. They are valued at 5-100% of fees and are only available to applicants who successfully met the school’s admissions criteria. The application deadline is in November of the year preceding entry.
Gresham’s School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The Gresham’s School’s entrance assessment consists of the following papers:
- English (multiple-choice)
- Mathematics (multiple-choice)
The English paper examines comprehension skills, including inference, while the maths paper tests problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills.
The papers consist of a series of questions, which are designed to test your child’s ability to use and apply their knowledge in the mentioned subjects.
