Introduction
Felsted School is an independent co-educational day and boarding school in Felsted, Essex.
Established in 1564 by Richard Rich, Felsted is one of the 12 founding members of the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference, and a full member of the Round Square Conference of world schools.
Awarded the Good Schools Guide award twice, Felsted is noted as the only public school that ever educated a British head of state, Richard Cromwell.

Open Events for Felsted Prep School 11 Plus (11+) Entry
An Open Morning provides families with the opportunity to meet staff, subject teachers and Felsted’s current pupils.
Tours of both the Prep and Senior School take place during the event. They include displays and activities designed to give visitors a taste of life on campus.
During the event, you will also hear a talk by the Headmasters of both the Prep and Senior School. The Admissions team will be on hand to explain admissions procedures and answer any questions you may have.

Felsted Prep School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
The admissions process begins with registration. The next step includes taking the Standard Entry examination in the December prior to entry.
The examinations are taken in English (National Curriculum Level 4/5), Mathematics (National Curriculum Level 4/5), Non-Verbal Reasoning and Verbal Reasoning.
Admissions decisions are based on your child’s performance in the entrance examinations and interview with the Headmaster, as well as a positive confidential report from their current school.
Felsted Prep School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Following Standard Entry, top candidates will be invited to apply for Academic Scholarship examinations consisting of English and mathematics papers, as well as a practical Science assessment in January. These are followed by a scholarship interview with the Headmaster.
Children with genuine musical promise in two or more instruments or singing may apply for a Music Scholarship following a Standard Entry offer (in the January prior to entry). For more information about this scholarship, please visit the school’s website.
The Mary Skill Award is awarded to children who possess a talent in academic subjects other than English, mathematics and Science, such as art, design & technology, drama, ICT, languages, sport or any other hobby/interest that demands a high level of commitment, skill, passion and genuine talent.

Felsted Prep School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The entrance assessment for candidates applying to join Year 7 (11+) consists of the following papers:
- English comprehension (60 minutes)
- English writing (5 minutes reading and 40 minutes writing)
- Mathematics reasoning (50 minutes)
- Arithmetics
- Verbal Reasoning
- Non-Verbal Reasoning
The English papers examine comprehension and writing skills, whilst the maths papers tests problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills.
The Verbal Reasoning paper is primarily designed to test and assess your child’s logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary. The Non-Verbal Reasoning paper is designed to measure their ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
