Farlington School is an independent day and boarding school in West Sussex. Founded in 1896 in Haywards Heath, the school moved to its present site at Strood Park near Horsham in 1955.
In Year 7, pupils study biology, chemistry, computing, cookery & nutrition, drama & theatre, English, art, MFL, Latin, geography, history, mathematics, music, religion, philosophy & ethics, physics and sport.
Beyond the classroom, pupils take part in a range of activities which enable them to develop further skills and abilities. These range from swimming, chess, ballet and cookery, to debating, science, fencing and international trips.

The Whole School Open Day offers families the opportunity to take a pupil-led tour of the campus, hear talks from staff and current students, meet teachers, and learn more about enrichment activities and the Admissions process. Booking is made via an online form.

Farlington School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
To apply for a place at 11+, you should complete the Registration Form and return it to the school together with the required fee. Upon receipt of the form, the school will place your child’s name on the General Waiting List. However, this does not guarantee them a place.
The admissions process covers entrance examinations and an interview, assessing your child’s academic potential and ability to contribute to the school community. A reference from their current Headteacher will also be requested.
A place is offered in writing. The school typically sends out a confirmation letter along with an Acceptance Form, which should be completed and signed by both parents, and returned to the school along with a copy of your child’s birth certificate. You will also be expected to pay a deposit in order to secure the place.
Farlington School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
The school offers a number of Scholarships and awards at 11+. The Vive Scholarship is awarded to one student who demonstrates outstanding academic ability in the entrance examinations, as well as talent in another area. Candidates for this award will be expected to complete an additional essay-based task and will be assessed in their other area of ability. They will automatically be considered for an Academic Scholarship. The Vive Scholarship offers a 50% reduction in fees.
Academic Scholarships are awarded on the basis of performance in the entrance examinations. These Scholarships are valued up to 20% of the day school fees.
Art, Drama, Sport and Music Scholarships carry the same value as Academic Scholarships, but include additional assessments.
Means tested bursaries, covering up to 90% of tuition fees, are also available at 11+.
The main bursary award process is carried out in the first half of the Spring Term. You are strongly advised by the school to apply for bursarial support in the second half of the preceding Autumn Term.

The Farlington School 11+ entrance examination consists of the following papers:
- Verbal Reasoning
The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper may include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
The Verbal Reasoning paper is primarily designed to test and assess their logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary.
