Introduction
Embley (formerly Hampshire Collegiate School) is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school in Embley Park in Wellow, Hampshire. It is situated in 130 acres of private wood and parkland on the edge of the New Forest National Park.
The Senior School curriculum comprises art, craft & technology, business studies, computer science, drama, English, geography, history, home economics, mathematics, MFL, music, philosophy & religion, physical education, PSHE and science.
Within the co-curriculum programme, the school initiates participation in sporting opportunities such as rugby, hockey, cricket, netball, golf and rounders, coupled with various outdoor adventure activities.
Encouraged to take intellectual risks, Embley’s pupils grow and develop into well-rounded young adults who respond positively to life’s challenges. Open Events for Embley 11 Plus (11+) Entry
The school holds a number of open events throughout the year, offering families the chance to hear a talk from the Head, view boarding houses, chat with staff members, subject teachers and pupils, and see the school in action.

Embley 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
To register your child for a place at the school, you should complete the online form and pay a fee of £100. The deadline for this is in November. Upon registering, your child will be invited to attend a taster day in order to meet the teachers and spend time with current pupils.
The admissions process includes entrance assessments and an interview with a senior member of staff. Prior to the assessments, Embley will ask for your child’s current-school report and reference.
To accept an offer of a place, you’ll be expected to complete and return an acceptance form together with a deposit of £250. The offer letter will provide further details regarding the deadline for acceptance.
Embley 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Scholarships at Embley cover the areas of Academic ability, Art & Design, Drama, Music and Sports and their value is determined by the Head. The scholarship application form should be returned to the admissions office, together with a brief personal statement, written by the candidate.
Academic Scholarships are available to students who, throughout the 11+ admissions process, demonstrate the potential to contribute to the intellectual ethos of the school. They are awarded following success in a scholarship interview with a member of the Senior Leadership team.
Means-tested bursaries are awarded on the basis of both academic ability and financial need. The value of the award is determined following an evaluation of your income and assets. Bursaries are reviewed annually. Please note that households with a combined income of over £70,000 may not be considered.
Embley 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The Embley 11+ entrance examination consists of the following assessments:
- English writing (essay)
- Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT4)
The English paper examines writing skills, including spelling and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
CAT4 is an online test that measures developed abilities via modules testing Verbal, Non-Verbal, Spatial and Quantitative Reasoning.
