Introduction
Embley (formerly Hampshire Collegiate School) is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school in Embley Park in Wellow, Hampshire. It is situated in 130 acres of private wood and parkland on the edge of the New Forest National Park.
The Senior School curriculum comprises art, craft & technology, business studies, computer science, drama, English, geography, history, home economics, mathematics, MFL, music, philosophy & religion, physical education, PSHE and science.
Within the co-curriculum programme, the school initiates participation in sporting opportunities such as rugby, hockey, cricket, netball, golf and rounders, coupled with various outdoor adventure activities.

The school holds a number of open events throughout the year, offering families the chance to hear a talk from the Head, view boarding houses, chat with staff members, subject teachers and pupils, and see the school in action.

Embley 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
To register your child for a place at the school, you should complete the registration form and pay a fee of £50. The deadline for Year 7 registrations is in November.
Upon registering, your child will be invited to attend a taster day in order to meet the teachers and spend time with current pupils.
The admissions process includes entrance assessments and an interview with a senior member of staff. Prior to the assessments, Embley will ask for your child’s current school report and reference.
To accept an offer of a place, you’ll be expected to complete and return an acceptance form together with a deposit of £250. The offer letter will provide further details regarding the deadline for acceptance.
Embley 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Scholarships are awarded as a recognition of excellence and potential. They cover the areas of Art, Design Technology, Drama, Music and Sport and their value is determined by the Headmaster.
To apply for a scholarship, you should complete and return a scholarship application form, together with any additional information, to the Admissions Department by the deadline in November.
Assisted places are awarded on the basis of both academic ability and financial need. The value of the award is determined following an evaluation of your income and assets. Assisted places are reviewed annually.
Means-tested bursaries are available to applicants who are already registered with the school. Bursary Administration Ltd is responsible for the process of evaluation.
Emergency bursaries are awarded following unfortunate circumstances such as unemployment, etc. They offer short-term support to enable your child to complete the current stage of their education.
The school offers a sibling discount of 5% for your second child and 10% for the third and subsequent siblings who attend the school at the same time.

Embley 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The Embley 11+ entrance examination consists of the following papers:
- English
- Mathematics
- Non-Verbal Reasoning
The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper may include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
The Non-Verbal Reasoning test measures their ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, assessing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
