Introduction

 

Eastbourne College is a co-educational independent school for day and boarding pupils, located in the town of Eastbourne. Founded by the Duke of Devonshire and other prominent Eastbourne citizens in 1867, the school began admitting girls in 1969.

 

In Year 9, pupils study art, biology, business & economics, chemistry, classics, computing, dance, design & technology, drama & theatre studies, English, geography, history, PSHE, mathematics, MFL, music, physics, physical education, philosophy & theology and politics.

 

The variety of clubs and societies, such as Astronomy Society, Charity Society, Chess Club and Philosophy Society, allows pupils to further develop their interests and abilities.

Open Mornings offer families the opportunity to see the school in action, take a pupil-led tour of the campus, hear a talk from the Head and meet staff members. To book a spot, you should complete the online form available on the school’s website.

 

Eastbourne College 13 Plus (13+) Admissions

 

At 13+, the first stage of the admissions process includes registration, which should be completed while your child is in Years 5 or 6. The school also recommends that you arrange a personal visit. A reference from your child’s current school will also be requested around this time.

 

The Registration Form, available on the website, should be returned to the school along with a non-refundable £100 fee.

 

Based on underlying ability test data and a detailed current-school report and reference, an early offer for a Year 9 place may be made.

 

A Guaranteed Place Form should be completed and returned with a deposit. This will be refunded in your child’s last term at the school. 

 

To finalise entrance, your child will be invited to sit either the ISEB Common Academic Scholarship Examination (in May), the Common Entrance Examination (in June) or an equivalent set of examinations in Year 8.

 

Eastbourne College 13 Plus (13+) Scholarships and Bursaries

 

For Year 9 entry, the school offers Academic, All-Rounder, Art, Design, Drama, Music and Sport Scholarships. Assessments take place in January or February of Year 8, apart from the academic exams in May. The awards carry a value of 5-20% of the fees. In exceptional circumstances, the award will cover 50% of the fees. 

 

Your child can apply for more than one scholarship. However, no more than two will be awarded (or one if the award is the All-Rounder Scholarship).

 

The school also offers means-tested bursaries, conditional upon your child’s fulfilment of the academic entry requirements of the school.
