Introduction

 

Dixie Grammar School is an independent co-educational school in Market Bosworth, Leicestershire. Dating from 1320, the school was re-founded in 1601 under the will of the Elizabethan merchant and Lord Mayor of London, Sir Wolstan Dixie.

 

The school’s curriculum covers the following departments: Science, Music, Art, Sport, Humanities, Languages, ICT, Home Economics, Design & Technology and PSCHE.

Open Events for Dixie Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Entry

 

Open Days are held throughout the year, providing families with the opportunity to have a look around the school on a normal working day, and meet the Headmaster and Senior members of staff. There is no need to pre-book. However, in order to meet with key members of staff, registering prior to the day is recommended by the school.

 

Open Morning is held once a year, typically in the Autumn Term. This event includes meetings with staff and pupils. The next Open Morning is in October.

 

Taster days are organised so that your child can spend time with their year group. For more information, please contact the Admissions Team.

Dixie Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

 

To register for Year 7 entry, you should complete the online registration form and pay a non-refundable fee of £95.

 

Your child will then be invited to sit entrance examinations and attend a short interview with the Headmaster. To help spark conversation, they may wish to bring in an object that they would like to talk about.

 

To accept an offer of a place, you will be expected to pay a deposit of £350, which is refunded when your child leaves the school.

 

Academic Scholarships at 11+ are awarded automatically on the basis of the entrance examinations, thus no separate application is required. The school also awards Art and Sports Scholarships. Scholarships will not exceed £1000 per annum. However, they may be supplemented by bursaries. 

 

Bursary support is means-tested and aims to allow talented pupils from low-income families to attend the school. To apply for a bursary, you should complete the Confidential Statement of Parental Circumstances Form and return it to the Bursar Consultant. Click here for more details.

 

Dixie Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format

 

The Dixie Grammar School 11+ entrance examination consists of the following papers:

 

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Verbal Reasoning

 

The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.

 

The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper may include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.

 

The Verbal Reasoning paper is primarily designed to test and assess their logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary.
