11+ Exam Date: January
11+ Exam Type / Board: School’s own
The school’s entrance examination is set in January. In order to register, parents need to complete a registration form. All applicants will automatically be assessed for Academic Scholarship as part of the Entrance Test, so there is no need for a separate application.
The school’s fees for Seniors are a total of £5,557 per term or £1,389 per month.
Fees cover the regular curriculum, school books, stationery and other materials, choral music, games and swimming and career guidance. They also cover public examination fees, but do not cover lunches (currently £3.75 per day).
For entry, girls will be tested using an adaptive online test, designed to assess ability in skills such as numeracy, problem solving and vocabulary.
The school arranges appointments for every parent to meet with Headmistress after the Entrance Day in January in order to discuss their daughter’s aspirations.
Flexible testing arrangements are also a possibility. The school vows to always try and accommodate parents with additional testing dates and do everything they can to assist them in the process.
As part of the testing process, the school also carries out a teaching activity after which the girls are asked to complete a task based on the skills and content taught in the session. This provides the school with an opportunity to interact with the girls, individually, in an informal non-interview process.
This method of testing assesses the girls’ natural ability in key skills, making the potential of every girl visible as opposed to the amount of preparation and revision she has undertaken.
The school’s primary aim is to determine how the applicants think and respond to engaging teaching.
The school recommends visits either on an Open Day or with a personal tour on a working day. Additionally, it organises individual Taster Days, where girls can join their year group and enjoy the full Croydon High experience.
It is advisable to pre-register, but you can also register on arrival. Appointments to visit the school can also be arranged on a working day at a suitable time for parents.
The entry exam is in the form of an adaptive online test that is completed on the day. The adaptive test responds to the applicant’s answers and gets harder each time they get a question right. Accordingly, each experience is personalised and unique.
The test examines the child’s ability in skills such as numeracy, problem solving and vocabulary, with emphasis on how they think and how they will respond to the curriculum instead of what they know and how well they have been trained.
At Exam Papers Plus, we recommend that students follow a structured revision plan that includes practice tests.
The more time students have to prepare, the more time they’ll have to improve any weak areas. Additionally, we recommend that students take our tests under timed conditions to get used to answering questions quickly, under time pressure.
Additionally, practice tests serve as a great way to monitor a child’s progress and will help you assess your daughter’s natural aptitude and ability regardless of past learning.
We highly recommend a thorough revision timetable well ahead of exam day. The more prepared children are ahead of the exam, the better chance they will have of achieving a good score.
Croydon High School uses an online test for their 11+ exam assessment.
We recommend the following online practice tests, which are specifically designed to help students familiarise themselves with online test formats which assess skills such as numeracy, problem solving and vocabulary:
