Introduction
Collegiate School, formerly known as Colston’s School, is an independent school in Bristol that was founded in 1710. It offers a happy and busy environment where pupils, still in their most formative years, learn about themselves and about the world in which they live.
The access to first-class facilities and a top-notch programme of extra-curricular activities allows pupils to excel academically whilst developing study skills and resilience and enjoying the benefits of effort.
The curriculum comprises the core subjects in addition to optional choices: art & design computing, design and technology, drama, French, Spanish, geography, history, music, PE and RS.
Activities that lie outside the confines of the examination syllabus are experienced through the High Achievers programme, which provides additional support for pupils who find the rigorous GCSE courses very demanding.
The programme ensures excellence in all academic, cultural and sporting pursuits which include writing competitions, the Bristol Schools’ Art Competition, Bristol Academy Rugby Coaching and Maths Masterclasses at UWE.
The school also runs an extensive programme of academic visits and trips to support academic progress and to give pupils a taste of the real world, including language tours to Europe, history trips to Europe and America and the classic geography trip to Iceland.
It also maintains clear and regular communication with parents for the sake of forming a strong partnership between school and home. The communication includes written reports with detailed commentary on progress, assessment grids focusing on key aspects of learning and Parents’ Evenings, during which both pastoral and academic progress are discussed.
Collegiate’s students have won national poetry competitions, played sports at a national level and have accepted places at prestigious drama schools, including the Bristol Old Vic. Due to the well-rounded, independently driven education on offer, many have won places at Oxford and Cambridge Universities.
