Christ College is an independent, co-educational, boarding and day school, located in the minster and market town of Brecon in mid-Wales. Founded by Royal Charter in 1541 by King Henry VIII, the school has been ranked in the top three UK Independent Schools in terms of “Value for Money” by the Financial Times newspaper.
The Year 7 curriculum comprises art, geography, music, art & design, history, physical education, drama, ICT & computer science, PSE, English, Welsh, Spanish, French, religious studies, mathematics and science.
The co-curricular programme further develops pupils’ skills through a wide range of activities, such as Fencing, Basketball, Canoeing, Combined Cadet Force and the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Open Mornings usually take place on a Saturday in March or late September. They offer families an opportunity to meet the Head and Houseparents and have a better look at the school via a pupil-led tour. The Deputy Head (Academic) and Admissions Registrar will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
An individual visit includes a meeting with the Head and a pupil-led tour of the school. The school also offers taster days, whereby pupils can come and spend the day at school shadowing current pupils in the same age group. For more information, please contact the Registrar.
Christ College, Brecon, 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
The admissions process begins with registration. To register your child, you should complete the Registration form and submit it with the non refundable fee of £100 via the school’s website.
At 11+, entry is subject to entrance tests and an interview with the Head and Deputy Head (Academic). Scholarship and Entrance Assessments take place in January/ February each year. If your child applies for a scholarship, they will be interviewed and assessed by the specific Head of Department.
Christ College, Brecon, 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Christ College offers Scholarships and Exhibitions to recognise academic, artistic, musical, sporting and all-round talent. These are held for the duration of your child’s time at the school. At 11+, they can apply for Academic, Music and Sport scholarships.
Academic scholarships are awarded following the scholarship assessments in January/February on the basis of exceptional results in the written papers in English and maths. The Head and Deputy Head Academic will also interview your child to test their ability to think quickly and handle complex ideas. The performance in the Non-Verbal Reasoning test will also be taken into consideration.
A scholarship can be coupled with a bursary. The value of the bursary will depend on the level of need, determined on the basis of means testing. More details are available here.

The Christ College 11+ entrance examination consists of the following papers:
- Non-Verbal Reasoning
The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper may include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
The Non-Verbal Reasoning test measures their ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, assessing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
