Introduction
Cheltenham College is a co-educational independent school, located in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. It was opened in July 1841 as a Victorian-era public school and became co-educational in 1993. Cheltenham College is noted for its strong academic reputation and is currently one of the most prestigious schools in the UK.
Cheltenham College aims to inspire its pupils to do their best by bringing excitement and intrigue into every lesson. Besides the outstanding facilities, the school prides itself on offering an excellent teaching experience that focuses on engaging and motivating each child so that their classes are impactful and influential.
Such an approach is enabled by the small class sizes and the fact that every teacher is a specialist who is passionate about their subject.
Outstanding facilities create an environment that encourages pupils to excel, comprising state-of-the-art science and DT laboratories and a multimedia learning hub. Cheltenham’s academic excellence, combined with strong pastoral care, ensures that every child relishes a challenge and thus develops perseverance and resourcefulness.
Their learning experience is further enriched by the many co-curricular activities comprising Clubs & Activities, Art, Drama, Music and Sports. Over 40 clubs are on offer, designed to help children explore new interests and develop hobbies outside the classroom.
Via the programme, children explore art and their artistic skills within an environment that enables their creativity to bloom. Complemented with a purpose-built Art Studio, the art department contains all the tools pupils need to create their own masterpieces in a wide variety of media.
Drama activities foster the development of pupils’ acting skills and performance techniques, whilst in the music department, an impressive number of pupils join national ensembles and orchestras and gain music scholarships after they leave school.
Most of the musical activities take place in the Lake House, which comprises a fully equipped music technology suite of Apple iMacs and digital keyboards, 10 individual practice rooms, instrument storage and a music library.
In the sports department, every team has its own designated coach who is an expert in their sport. The activities include hockey, netball, tennis, cricket, rugby, football, swimming, cross country, athletics and skiing.
The school’s motto Labor omnia vincit (“Work Conquers All”) is reflected in everything the school has to offer, securing a high-level engagement in a variety of activities that ensure the proper physical, emotional and creative development of each child’s persona.
