Introduction
Cheadle Hulme School is a coeducational school based in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport. It is a member of the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference and it welcomes pupils aged 4 to 18.
It was founded in 1854 under the name The Manchester Warehousemen and Clerks’ Orphan School by a group of Manchester-based businessmen. Their aim was to make sure that orphans and needy children were provided with a caring environment and education.
Occupying an area of 83 acres, the school educates around 1,400 pupils who participate in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. With two sports lessons and one swimming lesson per week included in the program, alongside music lessons, Cheadle Hulme School claims its spot as one of the most appealing schools in the UK.
Furthermore, Year 5 and 6 students can participate in a wide range of Football, Netball, Hockey, Swimming, Cricket and Athletics clubs, while pupils are given the rather unique opportunity to perform in assemblies, concerts and dramatic productions. A library, swimming pool, sports field, astro-turf pitch and tennis and netball courts are only a few of the many facilities available to The Junior School.
Cheadle Hulme School was rated “excellent” by a recent inspection report on the grounds of “the quality of pupils’ academic and other achievements” and “the quality of the pupils’ personal development”.
Additionally, the school implemented a ten-year strategic plan in 2011, with some of the goals being to spend 10% of the gross fee income in bursarial support, reintroduce the house system and complete various building projects.
