Introduction
Located in Bury, Greater Manchester, the Bury Grammar School is an independent day school with a long and rich history that dates back to c. 1570.
The school’s ‘all-through’ curriculum prepares children for the challenges ahead whilst remaining true to the tradition of providing an independent, unique and inspirational school education. The broad academic programme includes the core subjects plus CDT, food technology, modern languages, art, drama, music, computing and many more.
Biology, chemistry and physics are taught in specialist studios and laboratories. First-class sporting facilities, including a swimming pool and state of the art 3G pitches, complement the extra-curricular programme, whilst suites equipped with the latest technology provide the best conditions for in-depth development of pupils’ IT skills.
The well-being of children is secured via extensive Pastoral care which centres on their individual needs. The care manifests itself through the activities of the School Health Team comprising four Health Support Workers, who continuously work with pupils, parents and staff to ensure that all medical and health needs of the children are met. A qualified counsellor, who provides confidential support and advice to students in need, is available at all times.
Through the Enrichment programme, comprising over 130 clubs and societies to choose from, children develop transferable skills and broadening interests that stay with them for life.
Via the various enrichment activities, the development of pupils’ physical and mental well-being is secured, as well as the forming of their teamwork and leadership skills. Furthermore, the programme instills in children a profound appreciation for arts and culture as well as an awareness of their role within the wider community, with the aim to ease their transition into adulthood.
Students leave BGS as articulate, confident and considerate young people ready to make an outstanding contribution to society. They progress to the universities of their choice, equipped to excel in their chosen fields, as a direct result of the time spent at a school that’s in line with the motto: Sanctas Clavis Fores Aperit (The key that opens sacred doors).
