How do I teach my 6-7-year-old creative writing?

Creative Writing is a skill that can be developed, just like any other. We would recommend having your 7 year old attempt some of our 7+ Creative Writing tasks. This will allow them to develop their skills quickly and learn from their mistakes.

What should a 6-7-year-old be able to write?

This depends but in the context of the 7 plus exam, a 6 or 7 year old should be able to write a short piece, consisting of up to three paragraphs with correct spelling, handwriting, punctuation and grammar.

What is the creative writing milestone for a 6-7-year-old?

Being able to respond to a creative writing prompt accurately and effectively, whilst expressing unique and unusual ideas, would be an exceptional creative writing milestone in the context of the 7 plus exam. Students at this age should focus on consistency and accuracy. Quality is definitely more important than quantity.
