8+ Course 5

This is our fifth and final preparation course of the year. At this stage in the process, we are looking to revise the trickier subjects and question types, refine exam technique, work on timing, build confidence and recap some of the key skills children need to demonstrate in order to achieve top marks at 8+.

 

Our detailed, personalised reports will provide you with advice and guidance on which areas your child finds most difficult, so you know exactly what to focus on in the final few weeks and days leading up to their exam.

 

In maths, we will be revising the trickier topics and honing children’s ability to apply their mathematical understanding to more challenging problem solving and reasoning questions. We will have quick-fire mental maths games to build speed, stamina and mental arithmetic skills and to familiarise your child with the sorts of activities they may encounter in interviews or group assessment days.

 

In English, we will have teacher-led walkthroughs of more challenging fiction, non-fiction and poetry comprehensions, with a particular emphasis on those with challenging vocabulary and language techniques. Throughout the English sessions, there will be an emphasis on building the rich and varied vocabulary needed to secure top marks in English at 8+. Over the course of the week, children will create their own personalised Vocabulary Book to take home with them, full of impressive words and phrases they can use in their own writing.

 

Led by experienced EPP tutors and former teachers, this course will provide a comprehensive programme of skills-based study using exclusive EPP materials. As well as a week of rigorous learning, there will be added take home material for you to work on with your child after the course, to consolidate and reinforce their skills. A short report will be prepared at the end of the course, so you will see how your child has performed and the areas they will need to focus on in the remaining time before their exam.

 

Our courses are taught in small groups in a fun and lively atmosphere. The aim is to build your child’s confidence and skills with plenty of encouragement and positive reinforcement.

 

We’ve been running these courses for a number of years now and we know exactly what is required to succeed at 8+ at the top schools. Previous course attendees have gone on to gain places at a number of top schools, including St. Paul’s Juniors, Westminster Under, King’s Wimbledon, Dulwich College, Wetherby, Sussex House and many more.
