Bromley High School is one of 23 independent schools, plus two academies, that make up the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST).  Founded in 1883 in central Bromley, the school is now located in Bickley, an affluent district in the London Borough of Bromley, and educates girls aged 4–18.

The school offers a broad curriculum and has an excellent reputation for STEM. In 2018, it won the Education in Business Awards: STEM Award and Year 10 pupils won the UK Teen Tech Wearable Technology Award for their innovative echo-locating earrings, designed to assist visually-impaired people. Overall, GCSE and A-level results are typically well above the national average.

Bromley High School moved to its current 24-acre campus in 1981. Well-equipped purpose-built facilities support teaching of all subjects, and include world-class music rooms – a teaching suite, recital rooms, practice rooms and 440-capacity performance venue – plus extensive playing fields, a swimming pool, two sports halls and six outdoor playing courts.

Bromley High School 11 Plus Admissions

Girls in the junior school at Bromley High automatically transfer with no assessment required and make up around 40% of the girls entering the senior school at 11+.

Up to 60 places are available to external candidates and places are offered based on performance in an entrance exam, which consists of standardised tests covering verbal, non-verbal, spatial and quantitative reasoning, plus a creative writing paper and a maths extension exercise. On assessment day, candidates also take part in group problem-solving activities.

All candidates are invited to an interview with a member of the leadership team prior to sitting the entrance exam.

All candidates entered for the exam are automatically considered for academic scholarships. Other scholarships, which must be applied for separately, are available in recognition of artistic, musical and sporting excellence.

A limited number of means-tested Founders’ Bursary Awards are available. Parents applying for a bursary must check the deadline as it usually slightly earlier than the general registration deadline. Information and application forms can be obtained from the admissions department.

An admissions booklet containing all the relevant information relating to application and admissions can be downloaded from the school’s website.

How to Apply for 11 Plus Entry to Bromley High School

Parents wishing their daughter to be considered for a Year 7 place at Bromley High School must complete the online registration form and pay a non-refundable registration fee of £100. The closing date for applications is in November; however, early registration is recommended as only registered girls can apply to attend one of the school’s taster days, which take place over the summer term of Year 5 and the autumn term of Year 6.

In addition to the taster days, the school holds more general open mornings in October and May of each school year.

The entrance exam is held in mid-January of the year of entry. Offers are posted in early February and acceptances must be received by the beginning of March.

Bromley High School 11 Plus Exam Format
