Bromley High School 11 Plus (11+) Entrance Exam Information – Key Details

Introduction

Bromley High School is a girls’ independent school located in Bickley, Greater London. I was initially situated in the middle of Bromley, but was relocated in 1981 to occupy new buildings set in 24 acres of grounds and playing fields.

According to the Good Schools Guide, the school is characterised by a cool calm atmosphere that “pervades the corridors which are lined with notice boards announcing forthcoming events and successes. General impression is of a busy and active school.”

In Year 7, the school’s key objectives are that girls are stimulated and enthused by the lessons on offer and that they enjoy being academically challenged. Besides the core subjects, girls are taught PE, French, German/Spanish, geography, history, religious studies, art, design technology, music, computing, Latin and classical civilisation, drama and PSHE.

Within the co-curriculum programme, the school is noted for various achievements, such as the ISM / ISM Trust’s Bronze Certificate awarded to the Music Department due to its outstanding results and full commitment to music education.

The Art Department offers outstanding facilities, including four purpose-built studios (one of which is a ceramic studio), a fully equipped darkroom and a dedicated sixth form area comprising an exhibiting space.

In the ICT section, pupils have open access to Adobe Photoshop and other industry-standard graphics packages.

The Art Library offers an extensive range of books and periodicals and serves as a reading and resource area available for pupils during lessons, at lunchtime and after school.

At Bromley High School, every girl is in the immediate care of her Form Tutor who sees her twice daily. Although the primary concern of each girl is in the hands of the Form Tutor, they receive sympathy and support from all their teachers across the departments.

Pastoral Care is at the heart of the school’s ethos and is based on a firm partnership with parents, the support staff and other professionals.

The school’s motto Fides et Opera (By faith and by works) is widely adopted by both students and staff. Since concerns for the girls range infinitely beyond their performance in examinations, a profound love of learning, a spirit of enquiry and independence of mind are instilled in each of them, to last a lifetime.
