The first step of the admissions process involves registration. You should complete and return the Application Form so that your daughter can be invited to taster events and considered for the entrance examinations. A copy of her birth certificate and passport should also be submitted.
The assessment day for Year 7 entry takes place in the January prior to entry. It includes written papers and an informal interview with a member of the teaching staff. Places are offered in early February, following the assessments.
Brighton Girls 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
The best-performing candidates will be automatically considered for an Academic Scholarship. The school also offers Art, Drama, Dance, Sport and Music Scholarships.
Bursaries are awarded to girls coming from low-income families. Your daughter’s academic performance in the entrance examinations is one of the key factors when determining whether or not she will be awarded a bursary.
Bursaries are reviewed annually and take into account changes in your income and circumstances.
Higher-value bursaries are typically awarded to families with a total income of less than £35,000 per year who have no capital assets other than their home. If your annual income is greater than £85,000, it is highly unlikely that you will be awarded a bursary.
All bursary applications must be made prior to the entrance examination in January. For more information, please visit the school’s website.
Brighton Girls 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The Brighton Girls 11+ entrance examination consists of the following papers:
- Reasoning (Verbal and Non-Verbal)
The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The maths exam assesses your daughter’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper may include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
The Verbal Reasoning paper is primarily designed to test and assess her logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary.
The Non-Verbal Reasoning paper measures her ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
