Introduction
Birkenhead School is an independent, co-educational school based in Oxton, Wirral. Dating back to 1860, Birkenhead established its Prep School in 1889. [1]
Loyal to its rich tradition whilst maintaining a modern approach towards learning, the school offers a broad curriculum, comprising English, mathematics, science, history, geography, art, music, religious education, DT, computing, PE, games, MFL, PSHCEE, Outdoor Learning and Future Skills.
The Future Skills course aims to stimulate pupils’ enquiring minds through a range of modules such as Problem Solving, Philosophical Enquiry and Communication. Via the Outdoor Learning programme, the school enables children to explore the natural world and gain environmental awareness.
Co-curricular clubs maximise their potential through engaging pursuits such as Chess Club, Orchestra, Puzzle & Board Games Club and Stop Motion Film.

Open events at Birkenhead School allow prospective families to familiarise themselves with the atmosphere on campus. Birkenhead School 7 Plus (7+) Admissions
7+ assessments are carried out on the Taster Day, covering two areas of the curriculum: Maths and English. Spots for the Taster Days can be booked here. A reference from your child’s school may also be requested.
To accept an offer of a place, you will be asked to pay a £300 deposit, which will be refunded during your child’s final term at the school.

The Birkenhead School 7 Plus (7+) exam consists of the following assessments:
- English (reading and writing)
- Mathematics
The English assessment examines comprehension and writing skills, including spelling, punctuation and grammar, as well as the fluency of your child’s reading and oral skills.
The Maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills, including their knowledge of times tables.
