Introduction
Birkdale School is an independent school in the city of Sheffield, South Yorkshire. Founded in 1904, the school recently became co-educational. [1]
The Prep School curriculum covers a wide range of subjects, including art & DT, drama, English, MFL, geography, history, ICT, maths, music, PE, religious education and science.

Birkdale School 7 Plus (7+) Admissions
Your child will be considered for entry into Year 3 once you’ve submitted a completed registration form, which can be found here. The fee of £50 is non-refundable. Although a deadline for applications is not set, the school advises that you register early.
The Registrar will then get in touch to schedule a Taster Day for your child, consisting of numeracy and literacy assessments.
If you receive an offer of a place, you should accept it by completing an Acceptance Form and paying a refundable deposit.

Scholarships and Bursaries are only available to Senior School applicants.
Birkdale School 7 Plus (7+) Exam Format
The Birkdale School 7 Plus (7+) exam consists of the following assessments:
- English (reading and writing)
- Mathematics
The English assessment examines comprehension and writing skills, including spelling, punctuation and grammar, as well as the fluency of your child’s reading and oral skills.
The Maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills, including their knowledge of times tables.
