Introduction
Mill Hill School is a co-educational independent, day and boarding school in Mill Hill, London that was established in 1807. It is a member of the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference.
Mill Hill School occupies a 120-acre site, part of which formed the gardens of Ridgeway House, the house of the botanist Peter Collinson.
It was founded in 1807 by a committee of Nonconformist merchants and ministers, including John Pye-Smith. Initially, it was a school for boys only. Mill Hill first admitted Sixth Form girls in 1975 and became fully co-educational in 1997.
In March 2007, Mill Hill celebrated its bicentenary. To mark the occasion, the school was granted a new coat of arms by Robert Noel, Her Majesty’s Lancaster Herald.
Mill Hill School started discussions about opening a Junior House around 1910 and in September 1912 Belmont Junior House became a reality. Belmont, now called Belmont Mill Hill Preparatory School, maintains its original ethos of educating the ‘whole child’ whilst providing encouragement and support on every level.
In 1995, a decision to integrate girls into the school was made and Belmont has since flourished as a co-educational day school.
The broad curriculum includes lessons in computing, maths, history, science, French, etc. Curricular activities in Year 7 include Geography field trips to the Lake District, amongst many others. The school organises trips to museums and galleries that are arranged as part of the curriculum and are included in the fee as are week-long residential trips in Year 7.
The Games department organises trips and tours throughout the school year across different sports, such as weekend tours and European and international major tours, most recently to Antigua for Year 7 & 8 netball and cricket.
A holistic learning experience is central to the school and fully reflects its ethos. According to the school’s philosophy, learning is not just acquired in the classroom.
All Belmontains have the opportunity to develop new skills, gain experience of leadership and challenge themselves whilst supporting others and building their character.
Pupils are encouraged to work hard and persist to achieve their goals and dreams. Pupils are encouraged to take risks whilst acknowledging failures, preparing them for full and active participation in British life.

In order to help boost the child’s confidence prior to the big day, we offer excellent practice and preparation. Our practice tests help students become familiar with the style and layout of 11+ entrance exams, whilst covering all the question types that could be asked in the actual test.
After you identify the weaker and stronger areas in your child’s knowledge base, you will be able to create a study schedule that highlights what needs to be studied and when.
With such a structured approach towards 11+ exam preparation, stress and insecurities ahead of the exam will naturally decrease as your child gets used to answering questions under time pressure.
Our practice tests help students answer questions quickly and effectively.
Through practice tests which are age-appropriate, yet still challenging, your child will obtain a significant advantage over their peers who take a less-structured approach to preparation.
