Introduction
Bedford Modern School (BMS) is a coeducational independent school in Bedford. Its current name was adopted in 1873 to reflect the modern and forward looking curriculum. [1]
In the Junior School, pupils study English, maths, science, humanities, French, art, DT, music, ICT, PE & games, PSHEE and drama.
The abundant extra-curricular programme includes numerous sports pursuits and artistic productions, performed in the school’s very own 300-seat auditorium. BMS also hosts the Shakespeare Festival, inviting schools from the area to take part in its drama and other performance art activities.
The wide range of enrichment clubs on offer includes Knitting, Chess, Book Club, Science Club, Harry Potter Appreciation and Charities Club.
The provision of pastoral care at BMS is superb and extensive, allowing pupils to identify their individual’s strengths and positive qualities whilst reflecting on their academic and overall development.

Bedford Modern School 7 Plus (7+) Admissions
The 7+ entrance exam takes place in January of the calendar year of entry. In order to sit the examinations, your child needs to be registered with the school first.
Please note that a reference from their current school will also be requested.
Offers of places are sent out in mid-February and should be accepted by the deadline in early March.

The Bedford Modern School 7 Plus (7+) Stage 1 exam consists of the following assessment:
- Online test in Maths, Reading and Non-Verbal Reasoning
The online test is likely to resemble CAT4, which tests Verbal Reasoning (English), Quantitative Reasoning (Maths), Non-Verbal Reasoning and Spatial Reasoning skills.
The Bedford Modern School 7 Plus (7+) Stage 2 exam consists of the following assessments:

The English Reading assessment examines comprehension skills, as well as the fluency of your child’s reading skills.
The Creative writing exam measures writing skills, including punctuation and spelling. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
