Introduction
Bede’s School is an independent, co-ed day and boarding school in East Sussex. Founded in 1895, its preparatory school moved from its original site in Blackwater Road to larger premises in the Meads area in 1902. [1]
The core curriculum of English, maths and science is complemented by specialist subjects such as computing, French, art, drama, music, PE & games, RS and PSHE.
Since 2018, the school is home to a privately-owned zoo that maintains over 60 species of animals, allowing pupils to grow in awareness about the natural world.
The campus also comprises numerous facilities, including a golf course, football, rugby & cricket pitches, tennis courts and a cricket oval, ensuring the full physical and overall wellbeing of pupils through a range of sporting activities.

Bede’s Prep School 7 Plus (7+) Admissions
To begin the admissions process, you should complete and submit this registration form and pay the non-refundable fee of £100.
The school will then get in touch to schedule a Taster Day for your child, during which they will be assessed. Recent reports from their current school will also be requested.
If your child meets the school’s academic and behavioural criteria, you may receive an offer of a place. To accept the offer, you will be asked to complete and submit an Acceptance Form and pay a refundable deposit.
Bede’s Prep School 7 Plus (7+) Scholarships and Bursaries
At 7+, the school offers performance awards in the areas of sport and academics. These are awarded following formal assessments and an interview with the Head, both held in January.
Performance awards are usually valued at 10% of fees. If the award is coupled with a means-tested bursary, it will not exceed 40% of fees. More details are available here.
Bede’s Prep School 7 Plus (7+) Exam Format
The Bede’s Prep School 7 Plus (7+) exam consists of the following assessments:
- English
- Mathematics
- Non-Verbal Reasoning
The English assessment examines comprehension and writing skills, including spelling, punctuation and grammar, as well as the fluency of your child’s reading and their oral skills.
The Maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills, including their knowledge of times tables.
The Non-Verbal Reasoning test measures their ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
