Introduction
Bede’s School in Eastbourne, East Sussex, consists of a preparatory school and pre-preparatory nursery, as well as a senior school, based in Upper Dicker, Hailsham, East Sussex. All three schools are part of the Bede’s School Trust, an educational charity.
Bede’s is known for providing children with the opportunity to make independent choices and decisions about their participation in school life. They are involved in the organisation, management and leadership of activities and participate in the expansive co-curricular programme for recreational, competitive or educational reasons.
The school aims to make pupils feel empowered by enriching them with experiences so that they may lead full and productive lives as confident and balanced members of their communities.
The Prep school’s curriculum programme offers lectures in English, maths, science, MFL, art and design, computing, dance, drama, EAL, geography, history, Latin and Greek, music, PE, PSHE and religious studies.
Via the Gifted and Talented Programme, pupils in Years 7 and 8 join the UK Maths Trust Junior Challenge to gain a range of certifications. As members of the Science Club, pupils do everything from building their own 3D Printers to writing computer code, whilst the animal Welfare Club offers children a range of activities including looking after the school’s own chickens, ducks, snakes, lizards and other assorted fauna.
The school’s activities are underpinned by supportive and friendly pastoral care. Whilst developing strong spiritual, moral and ethical values amongst pupils, the school encourages them to recognise and use their talents for their own benefit as well as the benefit of others.
In regards to pupils’ physical well being, the school invests in supporting, training and guiding them so that they get to represent the school throughout the year in a variety of sports including Swimming (year-round), Hockey and Football in the Autumn, Netball and Hockey in the Spring, and Tennis and Cricket in the Summer.

Bede’s (Prep) School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
The initial application form should be returned with a non-refundable registration fee of £100. Upon receipt, the school will confirm and explain the next steps of the process. You will also be invited to attend an interview with the Head, where you can ask any questions of interest to you or your child.
During Bede’s Experience Day (BE Day), your child will have a taste of life at the school and take an assessment in English and maths. If they are offered a place, you will be asked to fill out an acceptance form and return it with a deposit by a given deadline.

The 11+ exam at Bede’s Prep consists of the following papers:

- Mathematics
The English paper focuses on both writing and comprehension skills, including spelling, grammar and inference.
The maths exam tests pupils’ problem-solving and arithmetic skills. The paper will include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
