Aldro is an independent day and boarding school in Shackleford, near Godalming. It educates around 240 boys between the ages of 7 and 13.
The Year 7 curriculum falls into the following categories: Arts, Humanities, Languages, Mathematics, Sciences and Sport. The school operates a ‘Gifted and Talented’ programme, aiming to meet the needs of able and talented pupils via enrichment competitions, activity clubs, one-to-one lessons, school trips and guest speakers.

The school holds Open Mornings, offering families the opportunity to meet the Headmaster and take a pupil-led tour of the school. To register your attendance, please reach out to the Admissions Team.
Individual tours with the Headmaster can be arranged at other times. These can also be organised with the Admissions Office. The tours offer the opportunity to meet teachers in their classrooms, see the pupils at work and view the school’s facilities. Following the tour, you will have the chance to chat with the Headmaster, the staff, the Admissions Manager and current parents over coffee.
After visiting the school, you should complete the Registration Form available on the website and submit it together with the Registration Fee (£100). Your son should be registered by September preceding the year of entry. Upon registering, you will be contacted by the school regarding dates and information about the next stage in the admissions process.
The Assessment Day is in November. If your son performs well on that day, you may receive an offer of a place within two weeks of the assessment. To accept the offer, you will be expected to complete an Acceptance Form and return a deposit of £1000 to the Registrar. This deposit will be refunded after the end of your son’s final term at the school. Note that a current-school report will also be requested.
Aldro offers means-tested financial support (bursaries) with the payment of school fees to families in need. Bursaries may be awarded in the form of a discount of up to 100% on tuition fees, depending on your financial, compassionate or other pertinent circumstances. They are subject to repeat testing of means each year and may vary depending on your circumstances. The Aldro School 11+ entrance examination consists of:
The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The maths exam assesses your son’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper may include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
The Verbal Reasoning paper is primarily designed to test and assess your son’s logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary.
The Non-Verbal Reasoning paper measures his ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
