Merchant Taylors’ Prep 7 Plus (7+) Entrance Exam Information – Key Details

Written by Louise Lang

Introduction

Merchant Taylors’ School (MTS) is an independent day school for boys. The school’s list of notable alumni is long, including astronomers, politicians, poets, Egyptologists, authors and medical pioneers. MTS merged with Northwood Prep in 2015, forming Merchant Taylors’ Prep School, which has since been extended with purpose-built facilities for science, physical education, design and IT, as well as music and the performing arts. [1] [2]

The curriculum in the Prep School is designed to challenge pupils, equipping them with knowledge in the following subject areas: art & DT, classics, English, geography, history, IT, mathematics, MFL, music, PE & sport, science, speech & drama, RS and wellbeing & PSHEE.

Further investing in boys’ intellectual and spiritual development, the school offers a broad extra-curricular programme, encouraging participation in activities ranging from chess to basketball.

MTS Prep was recently rated as ‘excellent’ by ISI regarding the quality of pupils’ academic and other achievements, as well as the quality of pupils’ personal development, and has passed the Compliance Inspection, meeting all of the regulatory requirements. [3]

The school’s ethos is grounded in Christian values, addressing the needs and interests of each pupil individually and investing in their full development in line with the school’s pursuit of excellence. Leavers continue their education at some of the country’s most prestigious schools, including Eton College, Haberdashers’ Aske’s and Harrow, as well as MTS.
