Introduction

We’ve just released some new products for the 7+ Maths Exam:

7+ Mathematics: Addition & Subtraction

7+ Mathematics: Multiplication & Division

7+ Mathematics: Geometry

7+ Mathematics: Number & Place Value

7+ Mathematics: Measurement

7+ Mathematics: Fractions

7+ Mathematics: Statistics

If your child is preparing for the 7+ Exam, they will almost certainly be assessed in Mathematics. This maths exam can be broken down into a series of topics.

Within these topics, there are recurring themes and question styles that appear in almost every exam. We’ve made sure to cover all of these common question styles and patterns in our new 7+ Maths Topics Packs.

By analysing the 7+ maths syllabus in great detail, we’ve arranged the packs into a formulaic structure which makes sure you are covering all the bases.

Therefore your child can get familiar with all the key frameworks they need to know ahead of their exam, meaning they will be one step ahead of the competition.

Let me give you a simple example:

When dealing with fractions, exam questions often test attention to detail by asking for the remainder:

◦ One quarter of 8 cakes are eaten by boys. How many of the 8 cakes are not eaten by boys?

This is a very common question template and it’s surprising how many students miss the word ‘not’ and give the wrong answer.

Once your child is aware of this pattern, however, it becomes something to always look out for whenever they come across a question dealing with fractions.

This is just a very simple example and there are many such question templates for each 7+ maths topic. However, it highlights how you can help your child build up a set of mental frameworks and alerts when preparing the 7+ maths exam.

This means they can approach their exam with confidence and they are less likely to make careless errors as they have a set of mental models to follow when dealing with any particular question.

If you’re targeting a competitive school, the reality is that there will be far more qualified candidates than places available.

What separates those that are successful at 7+ is the ability to focus and avoid careless errors. Our maths topic packs are specifically designed to help develop these abilities in your child.

Here’s a simple process you can use to work out which maths topics to focus on:

This is a tried and tested two-step process:

Step 1) Firstly, we recommend that your child takes at least a couple of full practice tests:

7+ Maths Pack 1

7+ Maths Pack 2

7+ Maths Pack 3

7+ Maths Pack 4

Each of these packs contains four full practice tests, exposing your child to all of the possible question types using accurate 7 Plus exam format and timing. This allows you to quickly work out which 7+ maths topics your child finds challenging and which ones they understand well.

Note: If you already know what your child’s maths weaknesses are, you can skip the above step and move straight to Step 2 below.

Step 2) Select the relevant topic packs from the list of new products below:

7+ Mathematics: Addition & Subtraction

7+ Mathematics: Multiplication & Division

7+ Mathematics: Geometry

7+ Mathematics: Number & Place Value

7+ Mathematics: Measurement

7+ Mathematics: Fractions

7+ Mathematics: Statistics

Each of these packs focuses on just one specific topic, covering all the possible variations your child may face on exam day.

The 7+ syllabus is limited in its focus and scope so the packs above are able to cover pretty much every question variation within each topic. This means your child will be prepared for any question they come across on exam day.

Why this approach works:

When preparing for an exam, you want to take the most strategic and targeted approach. Put simply, the above plan is the most effective and straightforward way to prepare for the 7+ Mathematics Exam.

➢ You maximise your child’s valuable preparation time by focusing on exactly the right areas.

➢ You minimise stress and time-wasting by avoiding material that your child either doesn’t need to know or already knows well.
