Introduction
One of the two Catholic cathedral schools in the UK, Westminster Cathedral Choir School is a successful independent establishment in Victoria, City of Westminster. It caters for boys exclusively and many of its alumni have been accepted into prestigious senior schools, including Eton College, Harrow School, St Paul’s School and Westminster School. [1]
WCCS prides itself on a progressive approach to education, one that is founded upon the three pillars of Curriculum, Canon and Character. Its students are well-versed in the arts, literature and culture and proficient in grammar, logic and rhetoric, developing their identity in harmony with the world around them while thinking both critically and creatively. [2]
The level of musical excellence at WCCS is truly outstanding, as one would anticipate. The choristers receive top-notch training and are provided with the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, but this is not a mandatory requirement. While encouraging the love and appreciation of music, the school also recognises the changing nature of pupils’ interests, and therefore provides the flexibility for boys to make their own choices.
