Introduction
Basic information: Haberdashers’ Boys’ School, formerly known as Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School, is an independent day school in Hertfordshire. Widely known as Habs Boys, it was founded in 1690 and currently occupies 104 acres of beautiful countryside in Elstree. Leavers frequently access further education at top universities, placing the school very high on the list for Oxbridge admissions. [1]
Curriculum: As expected from an academically competitive school, the educational provision at Habs Boys is varied, but mainly invested in maximising pupils’ literacy and numeracy skills. The curriculum in the Prep Department also covers science, humanities, computing and DT, among others, allowing boys to achieve strong performance and build firm foundations for their future academic (and non-academic) endeavours.
Co-curricular: To complement the stimulating curriculum, the school offers a rich selection of co-curricular clubs and societies, allowing boys to explore their learning capacity even further. The offering encompasses everything from chess, drama and dance to choir, hockey and debating, inspiring excellent outcomes beyond the classroom setting. [2]
Pastoral care: The pastoral system is exceptionally well-developed and thoroughly integrated in every aspect of school life. Pupils are supported by highly-experienced staff, who actively collaborate in ensuring that the care is extensive and targeted, providing a top-quality counselling service for this purpose. [3]
Tracing its roots back to the 17th century, the Habs ethos is welcoming and flexible, aimed at meeting individual needs and particular interests. As such, it guarantees strong achievements, helping pupils shape the future of their dreams as they progress into life as a journey of many exciting ventures.
