City of London School (CLS) 16 Plus (16+) Entrance Exam Information

Written by Louise Lang

Introduction

Located on the banks of the River Thames, City of London School (CLS) is an independent day school for boys. It is one of the most academically selective establishments in the country, renowned for its long list of notable alumni that includes theoretical physicists, authors, university professors and Heads of prestigious schools. [1]

Characterised by both breadth and depth, the Sixth Form curriculum is rich in relevant subject options, ranging from economics and classical civilisations to politics and French. Boys can take four A-levels, or three A-levels and an extra, choosing from a progressive syllabus that’s firmly supported by dedicated and focused teaching.

The co-curricular offering is equally utilised, underpinning a harmonious yet lively feel that pervades campus. Accordingly, contributing to the wider community through voluntary service is as highly regarded as going on expeditions to exotic, far off destinations such as Nepal, Vietnam, Ecuador, Cuba and China. [2]

Free of stereotypes and supportive of individuality, the CLS ethos inspires achievement that exceeds expectations and nurtures its multicultural qualities as vital to excellence. Each student is encouraged to adopt kindness, develop self-awareness and engage in learning so meticulous that it alone makes a positive difference on a larger scale.
