Introduction

Stowe School is a co-educational independent school in Buckinghamshire. Opened in 1923, the school is based in Stowe House, formerly the country seat of the Dukes of Buckingham and Chandos. Stowe’s main house is a Grade I Listed Building and is maintained by the Stowe House Preservation Trust.

The Year 9 curriculum falls into the following categories: Arts & Culture, English, Humanities, Languages, Science, Social Sciences and Projects & Vanguard. To further extend their skills and abilities, the school provides pupils with the opportunity to participate in a wide range of  dramatic, sporting, musical and cultural activities, along with CCF, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme and the Community Service programme.

Through the provision of a rich, broad, deep and holistic education, the school ensures that each pupil’s interests and talents are maximised and that their character is built in line with the school’s motto I stand firm and I stand first. As a result, pupils leave school in good physical and mental health, equipped with strong theoretical and practical knowledge, and fully committed to the common good.

Open Events for Stowe School 13 Plus (13+) Entry

Open Mornings provide families with the opportunity to meet a number of Houseparents as well as many members of the academic staff. Booking can be made via an online form available on the school’s website.

Private visits can also be arranged. They include an individual, pupil-led tour of the school, a meeting with the Registrar and/or Head, a House tour and a meeting with a Houseparent.

Stowe School 13 Plus (13+) Admissions

Admission to Year 9 at Stowe is generally subject to five conditions:

• A satisfactory report from your child’s current school
• Successful performance in an interview
• Satisfactory performance in the Entrance Assessment
• Commitment to the School’s ethos
• Full transparency regarding your child’s health or medical condition, educational need or any behavioural, emotional or social information that could be relevant to the school

The first step of the admissions process includes completing and returning the Registration Form along with the registration fee of £200. You will receive the school’s formal acknowledgement of the form’s receipt.

The next step is arranging a visit to the school, ideally two to three years before entry, during which your child will attend an interview.

The Pre-assessment day is set in October/November of Year 6 for day pupils, and October/November of Year 7 for boarding pupils.

On the basis of successful performance in all key stages of the admissions process, you may receive an Acceptance of Place Form which includes paying a deposit of £1,200. Upon submitting it, your child’s place at Stowe will be reserved, subject to meeting the Entry requirements at Common Entrance or in the school’s own papers.

Stowe School 13 Plus (13+) Scholarships and Bursaries

Scholarships, up to a maximum of one quarter of the fees, are awarded on the basis of results in scholarship assessments held in the year prior to entry at 13+. The school offers Academic, Music, Drama, Art, Sports and Roxburgh Scholarships (awarded on the basis of strong performance in the entrance exam and excellence in at least one of the following areas: Sport, Music, Art or Drama.)
