Introduction

Samuel Marsden Collegiate School is a private composite school for girls in the Wellington suburb of Karori in New Zealand. It was founded in 1878 and currently educates around 430 students, upholding the motto Ad Summa (Aim For the Highest). [1]

Encompassing a diverse range of subjects, including arts, social sciences, languages and technology, the school’s curriculum presents robust intellectual challenges that facilitate exceptional achievements. The learning environment is supportive, rooted in quality teaching that includes careful monitoring of each pupil’s progress.

The co-curricular offering includes chess, choirs and orchestra, as well as over 20 sports, such as rowing, football, shooting, hockey, orienteering and cross-country. This rich range of after-class activities on offer helps girls develop all aspects of their personality, engaging them in valuable and memorable life experiences. [2]

The pastoral care provision is highly personalised, aimed at meeting individual needs and providing the required support. This helps sustain the school’s culture of achievement, which urges girls to take initiative and lead, while building quality relationships based on enthusiasm, warmth and positivity.
