Introduction
Roedean School is an independent day and boarding school for girls in Roedean Village on the outskirts of Brighton, East Sussex. Operational since 1885, it has produced many notable alumni and maintains high standards of provision, aligned with the motto Honneur aulx dignes –Honour the worthy. [1]
Pupils at Roedean benefit from an extensive academic and pastoral support, underpinned by plenty of individual attention that helps them decide on their GCSE options. The curriculum is broad and varied, encompassing ICT, modern languages, Classical Civilisation, science and more, grounding girls in a sense of accomplishment very early on.
The holistic education on offer includes a superior co-curricular programme, featuring a number of performing arts, sporting and outdoor education initiatives. The school owns a farm, providing students with unique experiences which help raise their awareness about the importance of ecology and familiarise them with agriculture, sustainable farming and food production. [2]
Facilitating the physical, intellectual and moral development of the cohort, Roedean challenges the status quo today, as it did when it was first established. The school’s main goal is to provide a strong academic foundation alongside ideal conditions for personal growth, building on a top-quality offering that maximises pupils’ abilities to think both independently and creatively in the face of setbacks.
