Introduction
Sir Thomas Rich’s School is a grammar school with academy status in Longlevens, Gloucester. Founded in 1666, the school is locally known as ‘Tommies’. [1]
In Year 7, the educational provision is extensive and stimulating, deepening students’ knowledge and skills in the areas of English, mathematics, MFL, technology, science, computing, humanities, art, music, religious education, PSHE, drama, PE and games.
A number of activities, ranging from chess, debating and coding to DofE, karting and skiing, further enrich the time spent on campus. Whether through acting, singing, dancing, writing or backstage work, students are encouraged to actively participate in performing arts to help develop their artistic skills and creative expression.
The STRS Sports Centre hosts a variety of sporting activities, such as swimming, basketball, martial arts, badminton, roller skating and fitness. It features a 25-metre swimming pool and two multipurpose sports halls, providing students with top-class facilities for the benefit of their physical and overall wellbeing. [2]
The school’s ethos is rooted in the British values of democracy, tolerance and individual liberty, maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment where communication is ‘open and honest’. An understanding of different faiths and beliefs is strongly encouraged, thus Tommies often invites local Imams to campus to lead school assemblies. [3]
