Introduction
Pate’s Grammar School is a co-educational grammar school in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Rated as ‘Outstanding’ by OFSTED, it has received The Sunday Times ‘State Secondary School of the Year’ award twice. [1]

Pate’s Grammar School In-Year Entry (12 Plus & 13 Plus) Admissions Information
The standard entry point at Pate’s Grammar School is via the 11 Plus. However, the school also accepts applications from pupils interested in In-Year (Late) Entry. To assess pupils for In-Year entry, Pate’s Grammar School administers tests that include Mathematics and English.
If you wish your child to be considered for In-Year entry, you should complete and submit the Register of Interest form, which can be accessed through the school’s webpage.

As part of the assessment process for late transfer entry, your child will be asked to complete papers in English and Mathematics. There may also be a Science paper.
- The English paper may examine both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation.
- The Maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper will include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
- The Science paper examines your child’s knowledge in the areas of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
