Burnham Grammar School 12 Plus (12+) Entrance Exam Information – Late Transfer

Written by Louise Lang

Introduction

Founded in 1960, Burnham Grammar School (BGS) is a co-educational grammar school in Burnham, Buckinghamshire. It caters for approximately 1250 students in line with the motto Embracing Challenge, dividing them across four houses named after Nicholas Winton, Eleanor Roosevelt, Martin Luther King Jr. and Muhammad Ali. [1]

A wide-ranging syllabus is at the heart of BGS’ thriving community, allowing pupils to explore their academic strengths without holding back. Mathematics, science, languages, social sciences and many other disciplines are taught to actively prepare the cohort for future challenges, enhancing their learning skills in the process.

Extracurriculars include drama, choir, rugby, Cryptography Club, debating, orchestra and Italian, some taking place after school, and others running during lunch or break time. Students are encouraged to sign up to as many clubs as they like, and hence maximise the benefits of the educational journey through both socialisation and self-realisation. [2

A number of residential and international trips are organised on an annual basis. Destinations have included Spain, Germany, France, Iceland and the States, allowing students to grow in confidence as they visit key historical sites and explore the landscape of some of the world’s most exciting locations.
